Motorsport: 2001 Wexford Rally only open to Irish crews

The 2001 Wexford Rally will take place over a curtailed course on September 15 and 16, and will only be open to Irish crews.

The 2001 Wexford Rally will take place over a curtailed course on September 15 and 16, and will only be open to Irish crews.

This development is due to the foot-and-mouth problems that affected Britain and Northern Ireland earlier this year.

While a major blow for Welsh crews particularly, the news will open the door for Irish drivers and navigators used to the clubman circuit.

Following the success of the Lighthouse Single Stage Rally in Fethard in 1999, and the Courtown Hotel Single Stage Rally last December, such events have proved popular in the recent past, with this year's Crosbie Cedars Hotel Wexford Rally certain to be no exception.
