The man suspected of planning to hijack a plane to London has been remanded in custody for two weeks.

Kerim Chatty, a 29-year-old Swedish citizen of Tunisian origin, was arrested last Thursday after a gun was found in his carry-on luggage before he boarded the Ryanair flight in Vaesteraas.

Prosecutor Thomas Haeggstroem requested that Chatty should stay in custody while formal charges are prepared because there is a risk he could destroy evidence or escape.

Preliminary charges against attempted hijack suspect Kerim Chatty were today extended to include airplane sabotage or airport sabotage, Swedish police said.

Detectives added what they described as “most serious crimes” following new evidence in the investigation.
