Newcastle boss Glenn Roeder ordered his players to put their 5-1 FA Cup humiliation by Birmingham behind them to concentrate on the fight for Barclays Premiership points.
The Magpies were ripped apart in devastating fashion by the Coca-Cola Championship title-chasers as they suffered their heaviest home defeat in the competition since 1914.
Roeder, who faces a reunion with his old club West Ham at St James’ Park on Saturday, will not allow his players to feel sorry for themselves.
He said: “We have got to ring-fence this game tonight, just in the way that Liverpool had to when they were smacked 6-3 by a very, very young Arsenal team.
“They came out and won the following game away to Watford 3-0. We need that sort of reaction and that is what I am looking for, a reaction.”
