Scottish Cup ties fall victim to big freeze

Dundee United and Kilmarnock were among the clubs affected as six Scottish Cup fourth-round ties were postponed today.

The big overnight big freeze in Scotland took its toll, to leave just nine of the day’s scheduled 15 cup matches on.

Clyde’s lunchtime clash against Dundee United, which was due to be televised, was among the games which fell victim to the weather.

A frozen pitch left the Broadwood pitch unplayable and the game will now be played on Tuesday evening.

With kick-off at Clyde scheduled for 12.45pm, the inspection took place at 11am and referee Mike Tumilty decided against going ahead with the fixture.

United’s fellow Clydesdale Bank Premier League side Kilmarnock were told shortly after midday that their clash at Airdrie would not go ahead.

That match will now be played on Tuesday, January 22.

Huntly’s match against Dundee was called off due to the bitterly cold weather early in the morning.

An inspection at 9.30am by referee Craig Mackay determined the frozen pitch would be unplayable and the game was quickly rescheduled for this coming Tuesday evening.

Cove Rangers against Ross County was also postponed, as was Livingston versus Cowdenbeath.

Livingston’s game will now take place on Tuesday, and Cove’s match will be played a week later, on January 22.

St Johnstone announced shortly before midday that their match against Raith was also off.

Referee Collum carried out an inspection of the McDiarmid Park pitch which was frozen in parts and decided it was unfit to play on.

St Johnstone announced the game would now be played this coming Tuesday.
