Seven dead in Sikh temple shooting

US police say seven people have died in a shooting at a Sikh temple, including the suspected gunman.

Greenfield Police Chief Bradley Wentlandt said tactical officers have been through the temple in Oak Creek, Wisconsin where shots were fired about 10.30am local time today. He said they found four people inside the building and three people outside.

One of those killed outside was the suspect, who fired on the first officer to arrive, the police chief said. He added that the officer fired back, killing the suspect. The officer is now at hospital having surgery.

Police do not believe a second gunman was involved.

The police chief said the best information he has is that two people, including the officer who was shot, were taken to hospitals.
