It’s not just president-elect James Healy who is preparing to take up office next week, Macra has also elected three vice-presidents.
Munster vice-president Tom O’Donoghue from Cappoquin, Co Waterford, has served as county chairperson for Waterford for the past couple of years.
Speaking about the election he said: “I hope to improve on the number of young people and young farmers joining Macra, and I aim to engage with all members of Macra, across Munster.”
Leinster vice-president Cara O’Mahony, originally from Kilkenny but now National Council Representative for Kildare, is a co-founder of Naas Macra and has worked hard to develop the club over the past number of years.
“I am delighted to have the opportunity to represent Leinster and work with our members there,” she said.
“I am looking forward to building on the membership and clubs we have in Leinster and working with the new presidential team as we deliver on the strategic plan that will be ready for action this year.”
North West vice-president Sharon Corcoran from Ballinrobe, Co Mayo, is the current Macra National Council Representative for Mayo.
“As vice president I will follow on from my predecessor’s excellent work.
“I hope to increase participation both locally and nationally and promote positive mental health and farm safety through workshops.”
Tom, Cara, and Sharon will take up their positions alongside James at Macra’s AGM in Leitrim on May 6.
Hundreds of young people will descend on the Lough Allen Hotel, Drumshanbo, for the AGM.
Delegates from the 31 Macra regions and counties will attend the meeting where 12 new National Council Representatives will also take up their roles.
The event will kick off with a review of Macra over the past year.
Issues arising will then be discussed and motions brought before delegates will be debated.
The hotel is offering accommodation from €49.50 per person. Houses which can sleep five are also available at €40 per person.
Delegates should quote Macra when booking on 071-9640100.
