Five people have been killed and about 30 injured in a bomb blast at an outdoor market in the southern Russian city of Astrakhan.

Oleg Grekov, of the Emergency Situations Ministry office in the city, says five people have died from the blast.

The number of other victims was reported as between 31 and 34 before the latest two fatalities.

News reports say officials believe the blast was caused by a device consisting of about 200 grams of the explosive substance trotyl placed in a bottle.

Astrakhan is about 1,400 kilometers (850 miles) southeast of Moscow, on the delta where the Volga River flows into the Caspian Sea.
