Imam Samudra, Amrozi Nurhasyim, and Ali Ghufron have been sentenced to death for planning and helping carry out the twin nightclub attacks on Bali island that left 202 people dead, many of them foreign tourists.

The government says the three men could be killed within days.

National police spokesman Abubakar Nataprawira said today that troops are on alert for a potential backlash in the world’s most populous Muslim nation.

Some vital installations, including the compounds of Western oil companies, are under tight guard.

Passenger ships are also being checked for explosives.
