Greene waits on surgery decision

Doctors are to wait another 72 hours before deciding whether jump jockey Rodi Greene needs surgery following a bad fall at Lingfield on Monday.

The 41-year-old weighing-room veteran displaced a bone in his neck after being unseated from Diamond Twister at the first flight in the opening maiden hurdle.

He was transferred to St George’s Hospital in Tooting, South London, from East Surrey Hospital in Redhill on Wednesday.

“He is in St George’s. He was transferred there yesterday,” said his agent Russ James.

“I managed to speak to his wife Alison this morning and she said they sat him up for the first time yesterday.

“He had an MRI scan on Tuesday, he’s getting physio four times a day and they are giving it another 72 hours to see how the swelling goes down before they decide whether they need to operate.

“Obviously he’s a bit disorientated, but Alison is happy enough with the way things are progressing.

“She is a lot happier now he’s in St George’s and things appear to be going in the right direction.”
