Filmmaker Vincent Hyland captured something rather special in Outer Kenmare Bay, Co Kerry yesterday.
Hyland managed to get up next to a feeding frenzy as dolphins and gannets feasted on sand eels in the bay.
Having headed out on his boat at 10am Vincent told breakingnews.ie it is very rare to get up so close to a feeding frenzy.
In the video you can see the gannets dive bomb into the water at frightening speeds in search of the sand eels and sprats.
A gannet can hit the water at an astounding 100kms per hour (62mph) and dive to a depth of around 30 meters (98 feet) in order to fish.
Hyland informed us that a colony of about 50,000 gannets live on Little Skelling off the coast of Kerry.
Vincent uses special film equipment to take video under the sea and captured some stunning dolphins as he swam with them.
Speaking to us he explained how the dolphins and gannets are quite the double act.
“It’s amazing really how they work together, the dolphins blow bubbles and it forces the eels to the surface which helps the gannets dive in to catch them,” said Hyland.
Vincent posted the video on his Facebook yesterday and it has proved popular on the page he uses to promote his Eco tours/scuba diving business.
He was also lucky to get a stunning day to film the video.
Also, did you see the basking sharks in Cork harbour? Amazing!
