Tipperary’s Seamus Callanan has failed in his appeal against the red card he received last Sunday while playing against Offaly in the Allianz Hurling League quarter-final.
The centre-forward was sent off after an off-the-ball incident involving Offaly’s Dermot Shortt during the game, which was described by the GAA Central Committee as “striking with his hurley with minimal force”.
A statement on the GAA website said: “The Hearings Committee found that evidence provided was not sufficiently compelling to rebut the referee’s report therefore the Infraction was proven”.
It confirmed: “A one match suspension in the same code and at the same level was imposed, applicable to the next game in the National League or Inter-County Senior Championship even if that game occurs in the following year”.
Tipperary won the match against Offaly so Callanan will miss their next game - the League semi-final against Waterford later this month.
Callanan’s team-mate Cathal Barrett was also unsuccessful in his bid to have his first yellow card from the same match rescinded. Barrett was later sent off after a second cautionable offence.
