Mayo 2-13 Galway 1-07, Markievicz Park
The Mayo minor footballers joined their senior counterparts in the Connacht football finals day on July 19, after scoring an ESB Connacht MFC semi-final victory over neighbours Galway at Markievicz Park this afternoon.
Assisted by a stiff first half wind, Mayo built up a 0-08 to 0-05 advantage, but really took control when playing against the elements in the second period.
Killian O'Connor netted the first Mayo goal to give his side a 1-09 to 0-05 lead, and Mayo were unlucky not to bag a second soon after when Alex Corduff had his shot saved.
A brace of quick-fire scores ensured Mayo led by nine points, but Galway made a real contest of it in the closing stages.
Galway failed to give up, with Ronan Steede netting the Tribesmen's lone goal with 10 minutes remaining, making it 1-12 to 1-06.
However, Mayo replied with a John Carney goal, followed up by a point from captain Aidan Walsh to ensure a comfortable 10-point win.
Mayo were last year's beaten All-Ireland finalists and they will now face Roscommon in the Connacht decider.
