A large crowd is expected at Wexford Park on Saturday week, with Wexford hosting Westmeath and Kilkenny in the Leinster Senior Football and Hurling Championships respectively.
Leinster Council officials have given the go-ahead to the double header following the Wexford footballers' opening win over Offaly and a 3-16 to 1-11 victory for the county's hurlers yesterday against Antrim.
The Leinster SFC quarter-final between Wexford and Westmeath, which was initially scheduled for Sunday week, will get things underway at Wexford Park on June 11. That game will throw in at 5pm and the winners will face Carlow or Louth in a June 26 semi-final.
Meanwhile, the visit of reigning Leinster SHC champions Kilkenny is sure to increase the attendance at the 25,000 capacity ground. Wexford were the last team other than Kilkenny to win the Leinster title, doing so seven years ago.
Giving his reaction after the Model men's defeat of Antrim, hurling boss Colm Bonnar said: "We felt we hurled well in patches and sometimes when you play against the breeze it can help to open up a team and with our style of play it does suit us.
"We kept the same team out that started the first half. To be fair to the players they dug deep and started working harder, closing down Antrim."
Second half goals from the excellent Rory Jacob and David Redmond pushed Wexford into a winning position. The manner in which his side pushed on will have pleased Bonnar, while captain Darren Stamp, who put in a 66-minute shift, Keith Rossiter and Matthew O'Hanlon all impressed in defence.
Anticipating a much tougher test against Kilkenny in the semi-final, Bonnar added: "There is going to be a serious blacklash. I would have said from the start that, for me, Kilkenny are still the team to beat and my mind hasn't changed.
"Kilkenny will have a major say in this Championship and having them here at Wexford Park will wake us up very quickly."
