Eight thousand entrants have descended on Dublin to take part in this year’s Dublin City Marathon.
Kicking off at 9am from Nassau Street, the first and fittest of the participants are expected to reach the finish line by 11am.
This year, 4,500 entrants have travelled from foreign countries to take part. Some 3,500 Irish have registered for the race.
With a positive outlook for today’s weather, it is hoped former records may be broken.
Dublin City Marathon spokesperson, Maire Scully, said: "The weather conditions are fantastic, so we’re hoping that there will be a fast race and perhaps the course record, which is held since 1983, might be broken this morning."
