A nine-month-old girl and her brother and sister were today fighting for their lives after they were knocked down by a car as they crossed the road with their mother.

The mother and her three-year-old daughter and two-year-old son, along with the baby, were crossing a road in Margate, Kent, England when they were struck by a black Ford Sierra.

Paramedics took the family to the Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother Hospital in Margate where the children’s conditions were described as ‘‘life threatening’’.

The mother was stable.

The family has not been named.

The Ford Sierra turned from Ramsgate Road, Margate into Queens Avenue at around 5pm yesterday when the accident happened, police said.

A Kent Police spokesman said: ‘‘The children are all in a life-threatening condition.’’

The constabulary’s crash investigation unit was looking into the cause of the accident, he added.
