Director: William Monaghan
Cast: Colin Farrell, Keira Knightley, Anna Friel, Ray Winstone, Stephen Graham
Screenwriter Monaghan’s directorial debut of the Ken Bruen novel has almost sneaked into our cinemas, perhaps because it is such a difficult film to stay with.
What can certainly be said of this London-based thriller is that the terrific cast pulls out all the stops … some dodgy accents notwithstanding.
Farrell plays London crook Michael who has been released from jail and has obtained a job as a handyman-bodyguard for reclusive young actress Charlotte (Knightley), with whom, naturally, he falls in love.
But since London has become filmdom’s crime central Michael must confront the many gangsters lurking in the shadows.
There is plenty of menacing atmosphere to wallow in and for a gangster-romance-thriller it satisfies.
