Sligo Rovers 0 Shelbourne 2
Shelbourne could win a third title in four years against champions Cork City at Turner’s Cross on Friday night after they moved six points clear at the top of the table.
Should Derry, who lost at Drogheda, fail to win at St. Patrick’s Athletic, a win for Shels would clinch the title.
Shels started well and finally got their noses in fronton 29 minutes.
Alan Moore’s corner was only partially cleared and Stuart Byrne beat Richard Brush with a stunning shot from all of 25 yards.
It was no more than Shels deserved for a dominant first half display in which both Jamie Harris and Glen Crowe saw glancing headers come back off the Sligo crossbar.
Sligo didn’t lie down, though, and Fahrudin Kuduzovic shaved the top of Steve Williams’ crossbar on 52 minutes with a 30 yard drive.
But an own goal on 68 minutes sealed Shels’ win.
Another Moore corner resulted in a right scramble in the Rovers box and Adam Hughes got the final touch to put the ball into his own net.
