Strong winds in Inner Mongolia have mixed sands carried from the Gobi desert with heavy snow, turning it yellow.

The region is blanketed with around a foot of yellow snow and emergency teams have been sent to the area.

It is reported that this year's winter could prove even more devastating than the last, when three million cattle died.
