Former WBC super-middleweight champion Richie Woodhall is winning his battle to recover from a career-threatening back injury.

Woodhall, 33, had to pull out of a bid to win the WBU title in Cardiff last weekend after suffering two stress fractures at the base of his spine.

But Telford-based Woodhall said: ‘‘The signs are good. I feel the back is recovering. I have had two weeks out of the gym and I feel a lot better.

‘‘I really think that with a month’s rest I will be okay and that I will be fighting again at the end of the summer.’’
