A Spanish radio station broadcast a chilling 12-second recording of a young woman shrieking at Atocha station in Madrid as bombs exploded around her. She survived.
The woman called an office colleague whose first name is Montse after leaving a train because of a first blast, then screamed in horror as two more exploded. Her account was recorded on the colleague’s voice mail.
“Montse, Montse, I am at Atocha. There was a bomb on the train and we had to …”, she said. She screamed as two more thunderous blasts were heard in the background.
Cadena Ser radio learned of the tape’s existence through a listener who works at the same firm as the woman who received the call on her voice mail.
The radio said the woman, named only as Aroa, was not seriously hurt.
The account can be heard at the website www.cadenaser.com. Half-way down the right-hand side of the page, click on the sentence “asi sono una de las bombas,” which means “this is what one of the bombs sounded like”.
