Coronation Street siren Maxine Peacock is returning to her man-eating ways as she enjoys a doctor's visit with a difference.

While devoted husband Ashley recovers in hospital from an operation to help him father a child, viewers will see the hairdresser, played by Tracy Shaw, in a steamy clinch with Dr Matt Ramsden.

In an episode to be shown next month, Maxine has been out for a night with friends celebrating her husband's recovery from surgery when she bumps into Dr Ramsden (Stephen Beckett).

She invites him in to toast the good news with a glass of champagne.

But they fall into each other's arms and neither are prepared for the consequences of their night of passion.

The doctor, who has been treating Maxine and butcher Ashley (Steven Arnold) for fertility problems, is terrified he will lose his wife Charlie (Clare McGlinn) and his job if his secret gets out, while Maxine is consumed with guilt and wants to confess all.

Shaw said: "It's a fantastic storyline. Maxine can't believe that she might have put everything in jeopardy for one night of passion.

"This is the Maxine of old rearing her head and it makes her question everything.

"She wants to confess to Ashley but Matt is determined to keep it a secret. They both have so much to lose."

Beckett said: "They get totally carried away in the passion of the moment and then have to face the consequences. He is faced with a real dilemma."
