Ireland's Padraig Harrington is facing an uphill battle in his bid to add the European Order of Merit title to his remarkable season.
The Dubliner currently trails Robert Karlsson in the earnings table and needs to finish in the top two at the Volvo Masters in Valderrama this weekend in order to finish the season as Europe's top earner.
However, he finished up on five over par after his opening round yesterday, 11 shots adrift of leader Soren Kjeldsen. Harrington has clawed back one shot after three holes this morning and is currently on four over.
Darren Clarke finished best of the Irish competitors on level par.
