Derry City 1 Longford Town 0
A Stephen Paisley own goal gave Derry another vital 1-0 win tonight as they ended their week on a high.
Fresh from their UEFA Cup heroics in Gothenburg, Derry had the ideal start with what proved the only goal on 14 minutes.
Sean Hargan’s cross in from the left had Longford in trouble and defender Paisley turned the ball in to his own net under pressure from Kevin McHugh.
Derry dominated with McHugh, twice, and substitute Stephen O’Flynn coming close to increasing their lead.
But O’Flynn was then sent off, following an off-the-ball clash with Town skipper Alan Murphy on 65 minutes, to give the visitors hope, but Derry held out to regain third place in the table.
