Michael Stoute will walk the track at Ascot before deciding if Gamut will line up for the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes on Saturday.
The master of Freemason Lodge will be bidding to land his fourth win in the mid-summer showpiece but does not want to risk his recent Group One winner on a fast surface.
The five-year-old ran out a three-length winner of the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud on good to soft ground earlier this month, and Stoute told the Daily Telegraph: “I want to run him, but the ground is the issue.
“I will have a look myself, then we can make up our minds. There is some rain forecast which would be welcome.”
