Morrissey: I would consider Cork job

John Allen's former right-hand man Patsy Morrissey has declared that if he was offered the position of Cork coach he will give it serious consideration.

And the Newtown man admitted that, given the right circumstances, he would love a shot at coaching the team.

“Anyone with an interest in Cork hurling would have to do his best for his county and I would give it very serious consideration if I was asked to take on the job,” Morrissey said.

“As a Corkman with ambition, I would consider the position. That doesn’t mean I would take it. All the pieces of the jigsaw would have to fit.

“I would love to see some continuity between the outgoing selection committee and the new one.

“Personally, I feel Ger Cunningham would make a very good coach. He has the ability to do the job, but that is not to say that I don’t have the same ability. I admire Ger for what he has done; the way he handles himself, the players and his coaching ability.

“I’m not in any way trying to devalue my own contribution and if the County Board were to offer me the position, I would give it serious consideration.”
