EC plans to slash farm subsidies in jobs creation plan

The European Commission today proposed a major boost in spending in the 2007-2013 period to create jobs and growth and pay for programmes to make the 25 nation European Union a safer, healthier place for its 455 million inhabitants.

The European Commission today proposed a major boost in spending in the 2007-2013 period to create jobs and growth and pay for programmes to make the 25 nation European Union a safer, healthier place for its 455 million inhabitants.

It sent EU governments a report putting flesh on the bones of a funding programme that has already drawn fire in key European capitals as too pricey.

The aim is to redirect spending by continued cutting of farm subsidies and raising spending on areas seen as more relevant to Europeans, such as jobs, growth and security.
