US technology company Sun Microsystems reported second quarter results better than forecast, with a net loss of $125m (€99m), compared with a year-earlier net loss of $2.28bn (€1.82bn).
Turnover fell to $2.89bn (€2.31bn) from $2.92bn (€2.23bn), topping cautious Wall Street expectations by 5%. Turnover rose 13.9% from the prior quarter, the highest sequential increase from the previous quarter since 1998.
Sun Microsystems has 35,000 employees worldwide. In Ireland, the company has a software, engineering and R&D site in Dublin, which employs around 240 people.
