Jason to film 'Still Open All Hours' in August
David Jason will film a new series of 'Still Open All Hours' in August.
The veteran actor helped pull in 9.5 million viewers last Christmas with a one-off special of his classic sitcom 'Open All Hours', and he can't wait to begin filming a full series - which BBC ordered in January following the special's success - later this year.
Speaking on ITV chat show 'Lorraine', he said: "We're doing a series of '[Still] Open All Hours'. We did the Christmas special ... I hoped it would work, because I love that style [of television].
"Lo and behold, it got a huge audience, so much so that they said would I be interested in doing this series.
"Immediately I got in touch with the writer, who I know very well, Roy Clark, and he said, 'Yes I'd love to, let's have a go, I can't wait to get on my old typewriter. '
"So that's what we'll do, we're starting to build up to that and we'll be filming from late August."
The original series starred the late Ronnie Barker, who passed away in 2005, as shop-owner Albert Arkwright and Granville as his assistant.
In the new series, Sir David will be seen running the famous Arkwright's corner shop, with his son Leroy - played by James Baxter - as his assistant.
Meanwhile, Sir David insists there will not be another series of 'Only Fools and Horses', despite him filming a one-off sketch for Sport Relief starring retired footballer David Beckham and co-star Nicholas Lyndhurst, because the show's writer John Sullivan died in 2011.
David, 74, said: "That [sketch] was a script that John Sullivan was working on. John Sullivan was a one off and he wrote those characters, there isn't anybody else, I don't think, that can do it."
