Linas Selection will not run this season after suffering a setback but connections hope he will make a comeback in 2009.
The five-year-old has been dogged by training troubles and restricted to just nine career starts.
“He has had a setback and he won’t be racing this year, we hope to get him back for the 2009 season,” said Gary Coffey, racing manager to owner Renata Jacobs.
“It happened towards the end of last year so he’s not in training at the moment. He’s currently recuperating at Mrs Jacobs’s Newsells Park Stud.
“We’re just going to give him a year off basically and bring him back.”
Linas Selection emerged as a likely candidate for the 2006 St Leger following a hat-trick of victories for trainer Mark Johnston.
However, he had a problem after finishing third to subsequent Leger hero Sixties Icon in the Gordon Stakes at Goodwood and missed the Doncaster Classic.
He had 13 months off and had just the one run in 2007, at Chester last September.
