Ascot faces unsettled forecast

Watering has been virtually ruled out at Royal Ascot due to a showery forecast for the week.

Watering has been virtually ruled out at Royal Ascot due to a showery forecast for the week.

The going is official described as good, good to firm in places on the home straight following only light rain on Sunday night and Monday.

“We only had one millimetre of rain last night and only another millimetre this morning, so the going remains the same as it was,” said clerk of the course Chris Stickels.

“We could get showers at anytime but the course looks great and we are looking forward to the meeting.

“With the forecast there shouldn’t be any need to water and some heavy showers are forecast tomorrow afternoon.”
