Gavin Dykes' goal-shy Derry dominated for long spell but couldn’t score and almost paid for it at the death.

Alan Murphy and Clive Delaney missed the pick of Derry’s second half chances.

St Pat’s might then have stolen it in the last two minutes. Tony Bird brought a great stop from Patrick Jennings while Jimmi Lee-Jones shot wide when clean through.

Both sides struggled to create chances in a generally disappointing first half.

Paddy McLaughlin planted his header from a Michael Holt cross off the St Pat’s post after three minutes.

Seven minutes later a shot from Mark Casey brought a good stop from Jennings.
