Singing hopeful Andrew Kinlochan was the first finalist to be knocked out of ITV1’s talent quest Popstars: The Rivals, in which Louis Walsh is a judge.
The 24-year-old from Hampshire got the least votes in the viewers’ phone poll last night, making him the first to lose a place in the boy band which will compete with the girls’ group for the Christmas number one.
In the show, the final 10 boys all sang solo in a bid to win the viewers’ support.
But Andrew’s version of It’s Hard To Say I’m Sorry failed to impress enough of the audience to secure his survival for another show.
The programme, presented by Davina McCall, opened with all 10 boys performing their version of the Beach Boys’ I Get Around.
After each solo performance, judges Louis Walsh, Pete Waterman and Geri Halliwell gave their own verdicts on how well the contestants had done.
Next week it is the final 10 girls’ turn to face their first live solo performances.
Both the boys and the girls face being eliminated one by one until just five of each remain to form the final two bands.
