Bites from Electric Picnic - Day 1
Hello, my name is Anna and I’m a first time Picnicer.
It’s been on my bucket list for such a long time now, but this year I finally took the plunge.
So, today I packed up my tent, wellies and baby wipes and joined the traffic in the direction of Stradbally.
And this is what I’ve learned so far:
Pop-up tents are a life saver.
No rods, no strings, no mess - ta da!
And if anything, it made me look like an experienced camper. #WINNING
Here’s hoping it won’t blow away.
The trek from the car to the campsite is long, tiring and if you’re carrying everything but the kitchen sink it could have a lasting effect on your shoulders.
These people thought ahead.
A wheelbarrow has already been added to the list for next year.
No handtruck? Improvisation is key.
Well done, Ladies.
The early bird catches the worm.
We’ve come to learn that tent location is EVERYTHING, and listening to tips from friends we now have toilets, showers and a food stall at our fingertips - all because we hit the road that extra hour earlier.
Also, less queueing and less traffic!

Not just for fashion apparently, it’s only day one and they have already got me out of some sticky situations.

As if you’re anything like me and panic to find your phone every 30secs, this is a MUST.
Make friends with your neighbours.
Go on, go over and introduce yourself. You’ll find everyone is in as good as a mood as you and up for plenty of banter.
Festival Friends!
They might even help you carry a few things to your tent or mind your stuff while you try out the portaloos.
Invest in a camping chair.
As grass stains don't complete that festival look.
Now that’s the life.
Get a programme.
Hats, scarfs and headbands!
Similar to an All-Ireland Final, there is merchandise available around every corner, so it is just so easy to pass-by without the blink of an eye, but these lanyard programmes have been our only means of direction when 3G is nowhere to be found.
It also contains all the acts, times and stages.
Blend in.
Flowers crowns, face paints and sunglasses - oh my!
When in Rome and all that.
Make a plan.
If you travelled with two or ten people, take five minutes to make a plan.
Don’t end up in the lost and found - as I’ve almost ventured there twice already.
