Greg Rusedski still feels hard done by over his infamous exit from Wimbledon, according to his wife.
The British number two has been keeping a low profile since his second-round defeat by Andy Roddick and a subsequent fine for using abusive language and Lucy Rusedski says her husband has yet to get over it.
“He’s very reflective,” she told the BBC’s Breakfast with Frost. “He sees it as an opportunity missed but he still feels there was an injustice.
“He’s a passionate sportsman and people keep saying we need characters. Suddenly people are aware of what’s at stake when someone makes a wrong decision.”
Rusedski, who will turn 30 the day before the US Open final in September, will turn his attention to the New York event in which he was the beaten finalist in 1997.
And Lucy insists her Canadian-born husband has not given up hope of winning a Grand Slam title.
“Obviously the years are moving on,” she added. “He feels he only has a couple of stabs at it. But he has it in him to win a Grand Slam. If it’s not Wimbledon, then there’s the US Open.”
