Cases of foot-and-mouth rise to 649

A total of 27 new cases of foot-and-mouth have been confirmed today, bringing the total to 649.

A total of 27 new cases of foot-and-mouth have been confirmed yesterday, bringing the total to 649.

The latest cases include 11 in Cumbria - though no more in the Lake District national park.

There are also two cases in Dumfries and Galloway, two in Devon and two in County Durham.

The first confirmed outbreak was earlier confirmed in the Lake District, near Broughton in Furness.
