A gunman took several hostages today at a school in Waiblingen, southeast Germany, police said.

A gunman took several hostages today at a school in Waiblingen, southeast Germany, police said.

Officers said the man was holding four students and a teacher and that he had demanded a ransom of €1m.

They said he has the hostages in a second-floor computer room at the school in Waiblingen, northeast of Stuttgart, and that he was in telephone contact with the police.
