Controversial British politician Peter Mandelson is set to leave his post as EU Trade Commission in order to return to the British cabinet.

Mr Mandelson has been forced to quit the cabinet on two occasions in the past amid corruption allegations.

However, Prime Minister Gordon Brown is apparently re-appointing him because of his expertise in global finance.

The Irish Farmers Association is welcoming Mr Mandelson's departure from Brussels, describing him as a "failed negotiator".

The IFA has previously accused him of selling out farmers during unsuccessful talks to agree a new world trade deal.
