Schumacher in philosophical mood after flop

Michael Schumacher could afford to be philosophical about his absence from the podium at the Australian Grand Prix.

Michael Schumacher could afford to be philosophical about his absence from the podium at the Australian Grand Prix.

The reigning world champion had to settle for fourth place in Melbourne, where David Coulthard roared to victory for McLaren.

Juan Pablo Montoya finished second in his Williams and Kimi Raikkonen, also in a McLaren, was third.

It was the first time Schumacher had missed out on the podium since the German Grand Prix of 2001.

The Ferrari driver said: "It's natural that one day it will change, and as we know in sport that's the way it goes."
