Moors murderer Myra Hindley died from natural causes, an inquest heard today.

A jury at Highpoint Prison, Suffolk, returned the unanimous verdict following the one-hour hearing into the 60-year-old’s death.

The inquest heard that Hindley had suffered a number of medical problems, including angina, osteo-arthritis and respiratory problems, and was a heavy smoker.

Home Office pathologist Dr Michael Heath told the hearing she died of bronchial pneumonia as a result of hypertension and coronary heart disease.

Hindley had been at the medium security prison since 1998 after she was moved from top security Durham Prison.

A statement by Judith Archer, head of health care at the prison, read out at the hearing by Greater Suffolk Coroner Dr Peter Dean, said Hindley had been admitted to the hospital’s prison on November 10 last year

Her condition deteriorated and she was admitted to West Suffolk Hospital, in Bury St Edmunds.

Hindley died at the hospital on November 15.

The statement said Hindley had suffered numerous health problems and had been taking 24 types of medication, including inhalers and Temazepam.

The drugs were taken for osteo-arthritis, insomnia, depression, the menopause, angina and hypertension, raised cholesterol, back pain, asthma and bronchitis.

The inquest heard Hindley had suffered a fractured heel in 1980, had a hip replacement in 1995, had suffered a stroke, and had also been treated for irritable bowel syndrome and psychological problems.
