Marlon Brando had one final trick up his sleeve to play on the Hollywood media machine he grew to hate in his later years.
An old friend confirmed that Brando was cremated in a private ceremony in Los Angeles on Saturday. Even superstar friends like Jack Nicholson and Michael Jackson were unaware of the funeral arrangements left behind by the secretive screen legend.
“Just family was present,” confirmed Brando’s friend of 50 years, Jay Kanter, who added: “The funeral took place over the weekend in Los Angeles.”
While his famous pals may be disappointed at missing the chance to pay a final tribute to the man described as the greatest actor who ever lived, Brando probably wanted to avoid any ugly scenes at the service.
With three ex-wives, a number of disgruntled mistresses and at least 11 kids, things can get a little crazy.
Brando died of lung failure last Thursday at the age of 80. Kanter couldn’t comment on whether the actor’s ashes would be sprinkled on his private island in Tahiti.
