The Football Association of Ireland will begin its search for a new general secretary today following the resignation of Brendan Menton yesterday evening.
Menton resigned following the publication of an independent report into Ireland’s involvement in the World Cup in Japan and South Korea.
The Genesis report was highly critical of the FAI’s preparations for the competition and particularly the conditions in Saipan which led to Roy Keane’s departure and, ultimately, the resignation of Mick McCarthy.
The report also recommended a radical and wide-ranging overhaul of the FAI and Menton became its first casualty by resigning shortly after its publication yesterday.
FAI treasurer John Delaney said a replacement will be installed within three months.
