The motor industry is welcoming the highest sales in new cars since the start of the recession.
Almost 110 thousand new cars have been sold so far this year, with sales of the 1-5-2 registration accounting for nearly 28 thousand sales in July alone.
The increase in activity has seen 5,600 new jobs in the sector since June 2014.
Alan Nolan is Director General of SIMI.
"I would say it has beaten expectations, we were expecting a good July but it's well ahead of what I think people would have anticipated, 27,600 cars in July, it's only a smidgeon behind January which is unbelievable, and it's brought the total for the year to almost 110,000 cars," said Mr Nolan.
"And that's the first time car sales have gone over 100,000 since the recession started, so really good news all around."
