Three policemen have been killed and four injured in a suicide car bombing in Chechnya, Russian news reports said.

The reports, citing the regional interior ministry, said the bombing occurred before dawn today at the police station in the village of Sernovodsk.

The car was spotted speeding towards the station and it exploded after police raised a barrier at the perimeter, the reports added.

Separatist rebels fought two full-scale wars with Russian troops in Chechnya over the past 20 years. Although the insurgency has been largely suppressed, sporadic attacks persist.
