Graeme Souness today spoke of being “ready for a big challenge” after his appointment as manager of Newcastle.
The ex-Blackburn boss is “excited at the prospect” of leading the Magpies.
Souness, set to start his new job on Monday, told Sky Sports: “I think I’m ready for a big challenge, and they don’t come much bigger than this.
“I don’t need to be told by anyone that Newcastle are one of best supported clubs around. Everything is geared to be successful, and I hope I can bring success.”
The Scot paid tribute to Blackburn chief executive John Williams.
“It was not easy [leaving]. I’ve had a great time here working with great people. John has been loyal and very supportive.”
