Irish business asked to help African development

Irish business leaders have been asked to establish an enterprise foundation for East Africa to help them develop a small to medium size enterprise sector.

Irish business leaders have been asked to establish an enterprise foundation for East Africa to help them develop a small to medium size enterprise sector.

The initiative has been proposed by non-profit Irish enterprise development agency Progressive Interventions (PI).

Its founder and programme director Gerry McCarthy says SME development in the region is critical to new job and livelihood creation for Africa's poor.

McCarthy said today: "This key component of poverty reduction needs urgent engagement by entrepreneurs and corporates.

"Not only would such a foundation act as a catalyst for resource mobilization, it would also provide a forum for successful Irish entrepreneurs to contribute ideas and solutions," McCarthy added.
