Turkey’s interior minister says a number of suspects in last week’s deadly bombings in Istanbul have been arrested.

Besir Atalay says most of those who took part in the bombings, which claimed 17 lives and injured 154, are in custody.

The two explosions, minutes apart, hit a residential area in Turkey’s largest city last Sunday.

Atalay declined to say which organisation, if any, those arrested belonged to.

It was not immediately known how many people have been arrested.

Turkey’s political leadership quickly blamed the blasts on Kurdish rebels, who denied responsibility.
