Last year's All-Ireland runners-up Galway have had their preparations for this season's championship rocked by the omission of star midfielder Michael Donnellan and his corner-forward brother John from the team to play Leitrim in the Connacht first round in Tuam on Sunday.

Michael is believed to have withdrawn from the squad in protest at the demotion of his brother from the team.

Neither brother attended yesterday's team training session. Michael's place in midfield will be taken by Sean O'Domhnaill, while John will be replaced in the corner by county hurler Alan Kerins.
