Up to 12 people are feared dead in the United States after a barge knocked out a large section of an interstate bridge over the Arkansas River.

Already three bodies have been removed from the water.

At least nine vehicles plunged into the water with passengers trapped inside in stormy weather conditions.

Rescue workers are bracing themselves for more fatalities from the submerged vehicles hours after the collapse.

It’s understood the captain of the barge had a seizure moments before his vessel struck the bridge.
