Police investigating the death of a man at the home of entertainer Michael Barrymore were today studying toxicology reports before deciding whether to re-interview him.
Reports on 31-year-old Stuart Lubbock, a butchery worker found unconscious in the swimming pool of Barrymore’s home in Roydon, Essex, in March, were today being studied after being filed to detectives late last night.
Police confirmed they would need to formally question the television star at some point, but denied they had any immediate plans to do so.
Reports this morning suggest Barrymore is likely to be questioned under caution at some point today.
A spokesman for Essex Police said today: "We have never made a secret of the fact we would need to re-interview all the people (at Barrymore’s home) on the night. Everybody who was there will need to be re-interviewed."
Everybody at Barrymore’s home on the night of Mr Lubbock’s death has been spoken to informally, he explained.
But until detectives received reports from toxicology tests carried out on Mr Lubbock’s body, it was not possible to question them formally.
"The report has been done and the senior investigation officer is looking at them today," he confirmed.
Mr Lubbock joined Barrymore for a party at his home after they met at the Millennium Club in Harlow on March 31.
He was later found unconscious in a swimming pool at Barrymore’s mansion and taken to hospital, where he later died.
Barrymore was questioned by police as a matter of routine on the first weekend after the tragedy, but officers will need to take a formal statement from the TV presenter before any inquest can be held into Mr Lubbock’s death.
No date has yet been set for the inquest.
