A train has derailed on the Norway-Sweden border, injuring 40 people, police said today.

A train has derailed on the Norway-Sweden border, injuring 40 people, police said today.

Norwegian police spokesman Trond Sulen said the first two carriages behind the locomotive derailed and flipped over.

The train from Oslo to Stockholm was carrying about 300 passengers when the accident happened near the Norwegian town of Skotterud on Friday evening, Sulen said.

Sulen said two passengers were seriously injured but their injuries were not considered life threatening.

Police have yet to establish why the train derailed, but Sulen said Norwegian police suspect an object became lodged in the wheels of the first carriage.
